Hi, I’m a developer, and yes, I’m a woman. So what?

Though anecdotal, it feels like there’s been more articles in the last few months talking about the minority of women in technical roles at startups and the broader fields of programming, development and other hard sciences. The sudden interest in the disparate representation of the genders in the industry feels a little odd to me for two reasons: one, this is not a new revelation and two, it’s much better today than it ever has been before.

Handcrafted CSS (Nashville Edition)

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to attend the day-long Handcrafted CSS workshop delivered by Dan Cederholm and Ethan Marcotte. I’m still not sure why they decided to bring it to Nashville (where country music artists easily out-number web designers) but I’m thrilled that they did; I felt like our city was one of the cool kids for a day.
